We are sorry to report that we have no photojournal of this event which had over 330 crafters exhibiting. This was one of the strangest situations we have encountered in over 100 craft shows and festivals we have covered! After communicating with show personnel at least three times, receiving show applications and info to post on our site and even getting driving directions 2 days before the show; we were notified at 4pm the day before the show that we were not welcome to photograph their show. In fact, if we even showed up and attempted to verbally cover the show or speak to "their" crafters, we would be arrested! The BCBW, Inc. organizers even went so far as to warn the exhibitors at the Friday morning preshow meeting of PCM reporter or photographer "potential intrusion". Obviously we had no intention of showing up or giving free publicity to promoters with such an attitude problem but it is actually the crafters who lose by such lack of professionalism on the part of those promoters. Luckily there were many crafters at that show who knew us from previous show coverage who were able to set the record straight with most of the crafters. Promoters who are that "protective" of their show usually have some problems (poor exhibitor support, poor promotion, or heavy competition from better run shows) and don't want any negative publicity. If any of those were BCBW's concerns, the talk among crafters about this incident at the last eight shows we covered certainly was not beneficial to them! Area crafters should be aware of this type of promoter activity. This is a situation where a local crafter association could really exert some positive influence over such promoters to the benefit of the crafters.
